Christopher Wojnar, MSN, APNP, PMNHP-BC

Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner

Christopher Wojnar is a dedicated Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and ICU nurse with over 10 years of experience in the healthcare field. His journey into mental health care began with a deeply personal and transformative moment—sitting at his daughter's bedside after her suicide attempt. This life-changing event solidified Christopher’s purpose: to help others through compassionate psychiatric care and advocacy.

Christopher completed schooling to become a Firefighter, and after five years of applying for jobs, he made the decision to quit his role in business development and sales management to pursue nursing. His nursing career began in the Operating Room at Froedtert Hospital as a surgical/trauma nurse, and most recently in the Neurological Intensive Care Unit at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center, Wisconsin’s largest hospital. In the Neuro ICU, he cared for critically ill patients and supported patients, families, and colleagues during some of their most vulnerable moments. These experiences inspired Christopher to address the psychological effects of trauma, burnout, and stress on healthcare professionals, patients, and their loved ones.

As an international suicide prevention advocate, Christopher serves as a board member on local, state, national, and international suicide prevention organizations. His work includes speaking at conferences, consulting health systems on suicide prevention strategies, partnering with researchers on nurse suicide, and advancing mental health policies to protect healthcare workers and first responders. Christopher’s unique perspective as a clinician, survivor, and advocate allows him to connect with others in meaningful ways, offering hope and practical tools for recovery.

Approach: Christopher completed his graduate training at Chamberlain University, specializing in psychiatric mental health. His education and clinical experiences in the Mental Health Emergency Center, Inpatient Adult and Child/Adolescent, Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient, Outpatient, Substance Use, and clients with Eating Disorders, have shaped his holistic, patient-centered approach to care. Christopher believes in empowering his patients by working collaboratively to create individualized treatment plans. He emphasizes that medications are a valuable tool within a comprehensive, multifaceted, and holistic treatment plan—not a one-size-fits-all solution. Christopher takes the time to educate his patients, helping them understand their treatment options and make informed decisions. His prescribing philosophy reflects his belief that real progress often comes from addressing the root causes of emotional distress and integrating evidence-based therapies with medications when necessary.

Christopher is particularly passionate about providing psychiatric services to healthcare workers and first responders—populations often overlooked when it comes to mental health care. He recognizes the unique challenges these individuals face and is committed to creating safe spaces where they feel understood and supported.

When not working, Christopher enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, playing guitar, riding his motorcycle, traveling, and trying new restaurants. He is an avid advocate for mental health education and enjoys connecting with communities through public speaking and storytelling. Christopher’s dedication to making a difference continues to drive his mission to transform pain into purpose, one life at a time.
